About

Jason Sims’ Horizons continues his exploration of the transformative possibilities of light, reflection, and perception through sculpture.

Through carefully constructed forms, he creates immersive illusions that appear to expand, dissolve, or reconfigure the space around them. These works often blur the boundary between the physical object and the environment it occupies, prompting viewers to reconsider what is real and what is perceived.

Central to Sims’ practice is the idea that illusion can be a powerful tool for shifting awareness. By presenting optical environments that feel both tangible and impossible, he encourages a slower, more contemplative engagement with the work. The viewer is invited to question the reliability of sight, to become aware of their own perceptual assumptions, and to embrace a moment of imaginative discovery.

Drawing on a long tradition of artists who inquires attempt to explore the sublime through light and spatial manipulation, Sims’ focuses on meticulous construction and optical precision to forge immersive experiences. His minimal aesthetic, precise construction, and intense focus on the experiential offer a temporary suspension of the everyday. These installations create opportunities for viewers to reflect on their relationship to space, form, and the unseen structures that shape perception.
